My Standards
All lathe work here at Paragon Custom Rifles is preformed with single point cutters after it has been indicated true to run concentric within 0.0001 (1/10,000th) of an inch or better. No piloted taps or piloted hand cutters are used in the truing of actions here.. I use the same methods that consistently turn out top precision work in the tool & die workshop.
I use a barrel flush system with an adapted air line fit into it that lets me clear the chips without having to blow them down through the fresh cut rifling of your new barrel. I do all barrel work through the headstock of my chambering Lathe for added rigidity.
When it comes to chambering, you have a choice to make, I'll either use the "Gordy Gritters" method where the chamber and throat is aligned as close as possible to the bore right where the bullet will sit when chambered. Then any curvature (if any) in the barrel between the chamber and the muzzle is timed so that the muzzle will point slightly upwards by being clocked at 12 o'clock to aid your scope with some added elevation. Or I'll use a common benchrest method where I'll place indicators in each end of the barrel and indicate both ends to run true within 0.0001 (1/10,000th) of an inch of each other before chambering. I have chambered my own rifles using both methods and they both have produced some excellent shooting rifles.
All mill work is indicated true to within 0.0002 (2/10,000th) of an inch or better before any work progresses. In other words, I treat the machining work done on your rifle with the absolute care and precision I'd use if it was my rifle.
All machine work is guaranteed to be of the highest standard or I'll redo it for free.
